Rukiya R. L. Rountree

Counselor/Consultant

 

The Director is a California Board Certified Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over thirty years of experience in Human Services. She received her MSW from the University of Denver and completed a Masters of Divinity at Fuller Seminary. Completed post graduate studies at University of Southern California - ABD. Served as faculty for the BASW and MSW  social work departments at C.S.U. Long Beach, C.S.U. Los Angeles, and Whittier College. She also taught career search skills for Los Angeles Community College.


She conducts staff in-services and training on Family Violence--description of the problems, how to identify potential abuse, battered women’s syndrome, elder and child abuse, reporting requirements and case studies. She established the Westside Counseling Center at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles and has trained lay/peer counselors for several churches in the Los Angeles area.  



Served as a the director of a Statewide CA Victims Assistance Grant and developed 3-day conferences for police departments throughout the State of California. She did on-going training with police departments in Pasadena, CA and Aurora, CO. She is a recipient of the State of California Crime Victims Outstanding Programs Award. As an expert in cross-cultural simulation training she develops and conducts workshops, seminars and training for a wide range of clergy, police and community professionals .


Rev. Rountree is an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and has served as an Associate Minister with Holy Trinity and Grant African Methodist Episcopal Churches in Long Beach.  Her Spanish skills were utilized in work with Holy Trinity's Latino Ministry.  As Associate Clergy she assisted with preaching, teaching, visitation and counseling. Additionally, she served as a part-time Chaplain -  for the VA, Westwood facility and California State University Long Beach Interfaith Center. She has over thirty years experience in Christian ministry.


She provides Christ-Centered counseling for individuals, families and groups. This focus allows clients to explore the meaning of their relationship with Christ throughout the counseling process. The use of prayer and scriptures are included as components in the intervention and healing process. Additionally, she uses a wide range of assessment and inventory tools to facilitate personal insight.


Rev. Rountree has worked with interfaith councils and groups throughout Los Angeles (NCCJ), Long Beach (South Coast Interfaith Council) and the Colorado Council of Churches.
